UMshwathi Municipality Subsidises 28 spaza shop owners.

The Honourable Mayor of uMshwathi Municipality has provided support to 28 spaza shop owners through the allocation of R5 000 vouchers each to assist them in developing and improving their businesses.

Speaking during the handover programme, which took place in uMshwathi Thusong Centre, the Mayor stated that the initiative forms part of the municipality’s efforts to promote local economic development and fight unemployment. He emphasised that the growth of spaza shops into larger and sustainable businesses is important, as many families depend on these businesses for their livelihoods.

Municipal Manager, Mr Mafezwe Khanyile, also addressed the beneficiaries and stressed the importance of operating spaza shops responsibly and in compliance with all relevant regulations. He urged shop owners to ensure that all food products sold to the public are safe for consumption and have not expired.

General Manager for Community Services, Mr Thembinkosi Zondi, assured the beneficiaries that they will also receive training to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate and manage their spaza shops effectively.
