The Interim Land Rights Management Committee held a public meeting with farm dwellers at Cool Air Hall to discuss challenges affecting communities residing on farms.

The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including uMshwathi leadership led by Mayor Cllr Mandla Zondi, Speaker Cllr Sibongile Mbatha-Ntuli, ward councillors, uMgungundlovu District Mayor Cllr Mzi Zuma, aMaKhosi , the Association for Rural Advancement (AFRA), SAPS, SASSA, IEC and other organisations.

Farm dwellers attended the meeting in large numbers to voice their dissatisfaction regarding the treatment they receive from some farm owners. Concerns raised included poor living conditions, lack of basic services, unfair treatment, and other social challenges experienced within farming communities.

Several critical issues requiring urgent intervention were highlighted during the engagement. Stakeholders acknowledged the need for coordinated efforts to address matters relating to justice, human rights, safety, and the living conditions of farm dwellers. The meeting also provided a platform for community members to engage directly with relevant institutions and seek possible solutions to their challenges.
