Notwithstanding the challenges which includes – although not limited to – periodic breakdown of municipal waste and refuse collection trucks, but uMshwathi Local Municipality remains committed in maintaining a healthy and clean environment through collection of refuse in general and in areas where rate payers reside in particular.
The pictures belows captures the work that was done in Cool Air, ward 7 and Wartburg, ward 2 recently. While the municipality has a responsibility to service our communities but a humble and clarion call is hereby made that garden refuse and building rumble are not allowed to be dumped in either municipal skips or oil drum bins. Should anyone need to dump garden refuse or building rumble, they must fill forms and be willing to pay extra.
Additionally, it has been observed that some houses only pay rate refuse collection for a certain number of families members but interesting some of these houses are used for commercial purposes such as rental units or firms. This means there would be more refuse coming out whereas the rate are designed for a particular amount of refuse which is less that what is actually collected by the municipality.
The municipality calls on all community members to stay alert and be able to report those found to be dumping foreign objects in the skips or oil drum bins such as garden refuse or building rumble. It has also been noticed that some of the oil drum bins have been stolen such as in Dalton opposite Pep Stores. Another call is made to communities to be vigilant and protect municipal property because in actual fact these are your properties hence you are requested to report those found or seen stealing them.
The fight to keep our communities clean needs all of us because without your support, the municipality would battle to deliver on its mandate. Ours is to ensure that we leave no-one behind.
