UMshwathi Municipality has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of the Ozwathini community in Ward 4.

A collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Health, Department of Home Affairs, Correctional Services, SASSA, DSD, NPOs, local organizations, traditional leadership, and other stakeholders, converged at the Hluhluwe Hall to address pressing safety and health concerns.

The SAPS presented alarming statistics on reported cases, which included rape, murder, housebreaking, and theft.

It was noted that these criminal activities are often linked to excessive alcohol and drug use, illegal immigration, and high unemployment rates, which drive youth to engage in substance abuse.

Ward 4 Councillor, Mr. Njabulo Cebekhulu, emphasized that resolving these challenges requires a collective effort from all stakeholders. He expressed gratitude to participants and hoped for a future where the community can live without fear of crime and violence. Cebekhulu urged residents to collaborate with government departments and report any criminal activity in the area.

This joint initiative demonstrates UMshwathi Municipality’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, and serves as a model for community-led initiatives aimed at addressing social and economic challenges.
