On 31 March 2026, uMshwathi Municipality successfully implemented a support programme aimed at empowering Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and emerging farmers through the provision of essential equipment to enhance and grow their businesses.
The Honourable Mayor, Councillor Mandla Zondi, who was accompanied by EXCO members and Councillors from all 14 wards , emphasised the importance of responsible use and proper maintenance of the equipment received by beneficiaries. He noted that, due to the high volume of applications and limited available funding, only a portion of applicants could be assisted during this phase.

The Mayor further assured the community that efforts will be made to extend support to those who were not successful in this round in future programmes.
All applications were processed through Ward Councillors and subsequently submitted to the Local Economic Development (LED) Unit for consideration. The Mayor encouraged community members to continue engaging with their respective Ward Councillors when seeking developmental support and opportunities.

The equipment distributed was tailored to meet the specific needs of each beneficiary’s enterprise. Items provided included fencing materials and poles, refrigerators, grass cutting machines, stoves, chainsaws, fertilisers, sound system, animal feed, and various working tools, among others.
uMshwathi Municipality remains committed to supporting local economic development and promoting sustainable livelihoods within its communities.
