Today, the leadership of uMshwathi Local Municipality, led by the Honourable Mayor, Cllr Mandla Zondi, convened a meeting with the Department of Transport to formally introduce the contractor appointed to undertake the repair of the damaged bridges on the road from New Hanover to Dalton and the road from New Hanover to Wartburg.


The two bridges were severely damaged during the floods that occurred in November 2025, which disrupted access and negatively affected residents, farmers, and road users in the affected areas.
During the meeting, the Department of Transport officially presented the appointed contractor to all relevant stakeholders. Those in attendance included the leadership of uMshwathi Municipality, led by Hon Mayor Cllr Mandla Zondi , Ward 2 Councillor Cllr S.K. Nxumalo, members of the Ward Committee, Ward 2 residents, and representatives of the New Hanover and Wartburg farmers’ associations.

The engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to be informed about the scope of work, expected timelines, and coordination processes to ensure that the project is implemented efficiently and with minimal disruption to the community.
