The community of Mpolweni in Ward 10, uMshwathi Municipality, was filled with joy and excitement as the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Honourable Khawula, officially introduced the appointed contractor who will build sports field in the area.
Residents of Mpolweni gathered in large numbers at the local community hall to witness this significant announcement, which marks the response to their long-standing request for a proper sports facility.
During the event, Honourable MEC Khawula announced that the contractor has been allocated a period of 12 months to complete the construction project. He further encouraged the uMshwathi community to take ownership of and protect all public infrastructure provided for their benefit.
The Mayor of uMshwathi Municipality, Councillor Zondi, expressed his gratitude for the upcoming development, noting that the new facility will be of a high standard and will greatly contribute to the growth of sports in the municipality. He highlighted that uMshwathi currently has three soccer teams playing at advanced levels, yet they do not have an adequate facility that meets the required standards for their matches.
