
Having noted that the escalation of crime especially in rural areas where young people are involved.
Further noting that young people are the future hence must be nurtured and well groomed while they are young.
Believing that crime fighting need community members to be involved because criminals do not reside in the airspace but reside with and/or in communities.
Further believing that pro-activeness is better than being responsive hence crime awareness campaigns targeting vulnerable sectors or stratum of the society such as young people.

Therefore uMshwathi Local Municipality in partnership with the Department of Community Safety which is now located in the Premier’s office conducted a crime awareness campaign through school debates.
The idea behind school debates is not just to fight crime through learning debating crime related topics but it’s also meant to build public speaking, research and presentation skills which are critical for any person to posses as you navigate the contested job market.
